Here is some guideline that will help you when choosing patterns:
- Vary the scale of the patterns. Use large and small-scale patterns.
- Choose two important colors and one neutral.
- Use either cool tones or warm, DO NOT mix the tones.
- Use the patterns in all three working zones, function zone (furniture area), power zone (mid-area) and ceiling zone.
- Try to keep 3 patterns. Using too many patterns doesn’t give the eyes a place to rest and will feel chaotic…

The most important rule when mixing patterns is COLOR. Make sure the colors are in the same tone. You also want to show some restraint and NOT go overboard!! A healthy mix is excellent. So go out there and have fun!!
